Vegan Leather ProductionAs a concept to proof how possible it actually is to produce alternatives to leather, we created a concept dress called K-Lapse. We used the SCOBY agent (Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast) that is fed and raised with a sugary organic tea. Through fermentation, a thick layer of cellulose is formed, which is later harvested, dyed and tanned in a way that resembles real leather. The vegan leather is washable, very comfortable to wear - and the production is scalable.
